Our August 2024 show is an Open Call for Entry

and will feature Chippewa County in Photographs

Exhibit runs from August 1-31, 2024

Awards Reception:  Friday, August 2 from 6:00-8:00 pm

Call for entry to all photographers, instagrammers, influencers and content creators.  Sault Area Arts Council presents the second annual Chippewa County in Photographs.  This is a collaboration of 48 photographers over 48 hours with 48 sections of Chippewa County.  Any type of photography is allowed.... Film, digital camera, phone, alternative processes.  Everyone is a photographer. 

For 48 hours beginning at 9:00 pm on Friday, June 7th and ending at 9:00 pm Sunday, June 9th, 48 photographers will each explore their selected section of the map with their chosen camera medium.  The resulting images will be shown in the gallery of the Alberta House for the month of August.  Awards of $300 for best of show, $200 for runner-up and $100 for 3rd place will be given.

  • May 25th:  Online Sign-Up and submission deadline (CLICK HERE TO SIGN-UP)

  • May 28th:  Reminder notifications sent out via email

  • May 31st at 7pm:  Kick-off reception to draw your section of the map

  • June 7th-June 9th:  Photographs Taken

  • By June 14:  Email top 1-3 photos to us for approval

  • By July 26th:  Deliver printed gallery ready images

  • August 2nd:  Awards Reception

 

Accessibility:

We would like this event to be 100% inclusive.  Please make sure to select the box on the sign-up form if you will need to draw from locations that are accessible.

Fees:  

  • A non-refundable $25 entry fee is required with the sign-up. 

Notification of Selected Artists:  

  • Forty-eight photographers, plus two alternates to sign-up will be selected and notified.   Sign-up will cut off on deadline date or when the total number has been reached.

Selected Artists Are Asked to Participate in the 48-Hour Photography Event:  

  • Attend the kickoff party Friday, May 31st from 7:00-9:00 pm.  Bids for sections will be accepted starting at $5 and raised in $1 increments until won.  After bidding, artists will be assigned a specific geographic area within Chippewa County (determined by a lottery, randomly choosing a piece of the map).  If you are unable to attend, please send a proxy.

  • Take photographic images within your assigned geographic area any time beginning Friday, June 7th at 9:00 pm until Sunday, June 9th at 9:00 pm.

Selected Artists Are Required to Submit Artwork to the Chippewa County in Photographs Exhibit: 

  • Deliver your gallery ready (framed or otherwise ready for presentation, with wire hanger on the back-please no sawtooth hangers) artwork to the Alberta House between July 25-30.  

  • Artwork must be labeled with the photographer's name and title of work (on the back).  Please indicate the top of work if not clear.

  • Each artist is guaranteed ONE piece of artwork will be displayed in the exhibit.  

  • Artists are encouraged to submit up to three pieces of artwork to the exhibit.

Sales:  

  • All artwork must be available for sale at reasonable market prices.  

  • Art Center Gallery will retain 30% commission on all works sold for non-Sault Area Arts Center members or 20% for $100 level members.  (Click HERE to purchase a membership)

  • Artwork may not be removed from the exhibit prior to the closing date

  • Sign-up fees are non-refundable

  • SAAC reserves the right to use participants' submitted images, with appropriate acknowledgment, for purposes of publicity, education, and archival records.

  • All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. SAAC, its officers, employees, volunteers, and representatives are not responsible for any loss or damage to exhibitors’ artwork, however caused, and whether in transit or on display.
